Our story

It started with a piece of land and a nagging feeling.

That families were running out of places to just be together, doing something real.

Where it began

We kept looking for a place like this and not finding it.

The trips all started to look the same. Book something. Drive somewhere. Stand in a line. Buy a ticket. Race through an itinerary. Come home more tired than when you left.

What we actually wanted was harder to find: somewhere the kids could get their hands dirty, where there were animals to feed and food to pull out of the ground, where nobody needed a schedule to have a good day.

Somewhere that felt like a place, not a product.

So we started building it.

Who's behind it

A family building something for other families.

Sunset Prairie is a family project. We bought the land, we do the chores, and we’re figuring out the rest as we go.

We’re not a resort group with a development pipeline. We’re the people you’ll actually meet when you pull up the drive.

That means progress happens at the speed of a real family with real animals to feed. It also means every decision here has been made by someone who plans to be standing in it for a very long time.

We're building the place we wanted to take our own kids.

What guides it

Four things we keep coming back to.

Real beats staged

This is a working farm. The animals aren’t props and the mud isn’t decorative.

Slow is the point

We’re not building an attraction to race through. Empty hours are a feature.

Doing teaches better

Kids learn where food comes from by pulling it out of the ground, not by reading a sign.

Build it in the open

Rather than hide behind a fence until it’s perfect, we’re inviting people in while it’s happening.

Where the name came from

Every evening, everything stops.

The first thing we noticed about this land was what happens to it at the end of the day. The sky goes orange, then pink, then something you can’t quite name, and it does it over an open prairie with nothing in the way.

It became a habit. Whatever we were doing, we’d stop and watch. Then it became the name. Now it’s how we say goodbye.

see you at sunset

How it's gone so far

One thing at a time.

The beginning

The land

27 acres of Oklahoma prairie, 90 minutes from North DFW, and a very long list of things to figure out.

Then

The animals

Fencing, feed, chores and the first residents. Including one goat who would eventually get his own page.

Now

The first guests

Farm visits by reservation and overnight stays in the motorhome. The first families experiencing Sunset Prairie.

Next

The first cottages

Permanent accommodations, shared spaces and everything that turns a working farm into a place families come back to.

Why we're inviting you in early

We'd rather you see the middle, not just the ending.

Most places show you the finished version. You arrive, everything works, and you never know what it took.

We’re doing the opposite. Come now, while there’s mud and fencing and a motorhome standing in for the cottages we haven’t built yet.

Then come back in a few years and tell your kids you remember when none of this was here.

Be part of the story

There's still room in the early chapters.

Come out to the farm, stay a night, or join as a founding guest and help us finish what we started.
